Baxter Goes North: 4th of July Family BBQ in Arlington

Surprise! Louisa and I just adopted Baxter, a 7-month-old rescue puppy brought to us by Saving Paws of Washington from the recent Oklahoma tornados. Although his story may sound tragic, this supercharged tornado mutt is healthy, friendly, and can tell his friends he outran a 200mph category 5 wind storm. After about a week of acclimation, we all went up to Arlington to visit some of the family at the new house for a traditional 4th of July BBQ.

Baxter’s medical records, our vet, and people we see on the street all have a different opinion on his breed. He could be part German Shepard, part Chow, part Shar Pei, part

Nick and dad tossed a frisbee. To be honest, Nick mostly tossed the frisbee and dad chased it across the yard in his flip-flops.

And here we see mom’s pup Daisy (on the right). She and Baxter had a nice time chasing each other around the house and getting their leashes tangled. I think it’s going to take a few more visits to get these two to simmer down.

Seattle Event: 2011 Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival

The Center for Wooden Boats packed the newly-renovated Lake Union Park this past 4th of July weekend by hosting their 35th annual Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival. Guests were able to see gorgeous wooden vessels, enjoy free boat rides, built wooden crafts, and explore the many vendors and exhibits all while listening to music on the live stage.

Louisa, Lauren, Baxter, and I decided to stroll through the park on Sunday.

Many of the boats were visiting for the festival, but most are Seattle locals.

Sunny Evening @ The Shack in Seattle

Yesterday was one of the hottest days of the year in Seattle (76 degrees) and Louisa and I were lucky enough to have to have the day off. We started the morning with a nice long run, then grabbed some bread and cheese at the Broadway Sunday Farmer’s Market, followed by a hummus and pita lunch at the Elysian, and finished with a bit more walking and some dinner at home. What a wonderful and relaxing day!

Playing With Cat Toys @ The Cabin in Seattle

Sometimes I find myself in the mood to just take photos, even if I have nothing around to actually photograph. Yesterday I was in one of those moods. I’ll have some interesting photos for you tonight from the next SAM Remix, but for now, I give you Tapi’s toys.

Granite Falls Hike: The Cabin

Even though it was raining for most of the day, Louisa and I were able to make it out to her parent’s Granite Falls cabin this last Saturday for some hiking, dinner, and coffee. Boy was that a treat! It was a relaxing evening and I can’t wait to go on more hikes in the area when the weather clears up.

Louisa’s mom lead us down to an old railroad track that ran parallel to a river. We weren’t able to make it to the end of the trail because of a slippery rock slide, but we’re planning to try again in the summer.

In front of the cabin sits the old outhouse and woodshed.

Goodbye Bremerton: Selling The Larkin Lane Home

The long commute is finally starting to take it’s toll (literally), so the parents have decided to put their Bremerton home up for sale. This isn’t the house I grew up in, but the 6 years I did live here are enough to make me miss it when it’s gone. Mom and dad are Seattle bound.

Since I’m lazy and don’t like packing boxes, I was excited to offer my photography as a move-out gift. Louisa and I traveled to Bremerton last Sunday to make it happen. After several hours of pushing furniture, plants, and animals, we created some nice photos of each room and had enough time left over to build a virtual tour. If you’re looking for a house in the Bremerton area, this is the one get. Search for MLS listing 196442 and click buy!

Manwich: Delicious In Moderation

As a vegetarian, I will probably never have a proper serving of Manwhich, but last night Louisa and I renewed our relationship with the sloppy joe sauce, tofu style. The whole meal took less than 10 minutes to prepare and left me satisfied. I think this goes without saying, but a sandwich is a sandwich and a Manwich is a meal. It will be several more years before I have it again and even more if I run out of Cholula hot sauce.

That said, you might expect today’s post to include beautiful ketchup-flavored imagery, but you’d be wrong. As tofu sizzles just off camera, Louisa takes a few moments to pose for a photo. Much like the Manwhich, this image is little different and probably not something I’ll try regularly. Thank you Louisa for always being there to humor me.

Ravenna Gardens: Late-Night Panoramic Shacking

Last Saturday I arrived at the University Village a few minutes earlier than expected and had some time to kill. Since I’ve been on a panorama fix for the past few weeks, I thought it would be fun to find something interesting in the village to photograph. It was dark. The village was empty. All the stores had closed their doors. Shopping malls are just not that interesting.

As I walked back to my Jeep feeling defeated, I noticed this little shack sitting outside Ravenna Gardens. The lock was on the ground and the door was open. In almost complete darkness, I plopped my tripod on the table and captured a fun panoramic while late-night shopping stragglers wandered like zombies past the windows.

Bridal Veil Falls: Snowshoeing @ Mount Index

My dad and brother have been doing a lot of hiking over the last year and Louisa and I were able to join them this last Saturday on their latest snowshoeing adventure up Mount Index to Bridal Veil Falls. The day started early with plenty of coffee and excitement. Our gear was already packed from the night before. I am considered a hiking novice, so my equipement stash leaves lots to be desired. Luckily, my dad was kind enough to lend me his extra daypack and the REI rental department was ready with the snowshoes. I was even able to scrounge up the 10 hiking essentials with lots of help from my mountaineering brother Nick. After a few minutes of very delicately packing into the Jeep Wrangler, we were off!

Although we did not make it to our original destination, Lake Serene, the hike to Bridal Veil Falls was beautiful and an unexpected surprise. Just up the path we also stumbled on a small wooden bridge, several small creeks, and massive frozen sheets of ice. I’m glad we decided to do the trip despite the impending avalanche warning and I hope to get out on another hike soon!

Happy New Year From The Hunt Family!

The annual Hunt Family photos are always an excuse to try something new. This year, I had the challenge of balancing off-camera flash with the dim lights of a Christmas tree and the bright cheesy smiles of holiday joy. What did I learn? I learned that putting a SmartWool sock over my flash head decreases the power enough to actually see Christmas lights. Strobist David Hobby would be proud.

These photos are pretty dorky, but so are we. Thanks dad for creating the photo of me. Happy New Year!
